Hello,
I bought a used 503cw recently and I'm currently searching for a
Hasselblad Prism Viewfinder. I saw the new PME45, which really looks
great, but I don't think i could buy it new, so I had a look on BEay
(Germany) and there are quite a lot of different PME models around.
I'm searching for a 45° Meter viewfinder.
What are the significant differences between the several old models.
Do meter system of the prism viewfinders have to be "adjusted" (don't
know the english word ;-) ) to the new Acute MAtte Focusing Screen?
greetings

The PME-3, PME-5, and PME-51 are calibrated for the Acute Matte.

The PME-5 is a PME-3 with a cutout for the LCD display in the 200
series cameras. The PME-51 is an "improved" version of the PME-5.

The PME and earlier meter finders are calibrated for the old ground
glass screen and will need to have either the film speed setting
or the maximum aperture setting "adjusted" to compensate for the
Acute Matte.

Hasselblad used to recalibrate PME primsms for the Acute Matte(thereby
effectively converting them into PME-3 prisms) for a nominal charge,
but they don't do that (in the USA, at least) anymore.

I have a PME that was recalibrated for Acute Matte screens. Works like
a charm, and I've exposed a lot of transparency film with it. I'm sure
Brad Sherman could recalibrate one for you, and it will be cheaper
than any other metered 45 in the series.

Hi - just in case you didn't know, some of the 45 degree Kiev TTL metering
prisms also fit the hasselblad meter mountings and are very low cost
($50+) including both a spot meter and a non-spot meter variants, see
http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/kievttl.html

hi,
Thanks a lot for helping.
How about prices for used PME's . Bit of a difficult question, I
suppose prices for Hasselblad (EBAY) are quite different over here in
Europe than on the States.
On ebay Germany PME5 sotimes sells for 600 €. That seems a lot to me,
because I saw a PME45 for about 900 € some weeks ago.
I will probably look for a Original Hasselblad Viewfinder, even if I
knew about the Kiev..

nice greetings

Tom,
I have a PME and an NC-2 and I've had a Russian copy of the NC-2. I find
I rarely use the metered finder and prefer the hand held route. So if you
need the meter fine and go for the PME and compensate or recalibrate, if not
then go for the cheap Russian (Ukrainian actually) copy. I can't see any
difference in operational performance between the two (NC-2 vs. Copy). Keep
in mind I always have metered by hand for MF and LF and (I think!) meter
more accurately that way!
I have always found German Ebay Hasselblad items generally more
expensive than US prices-although I picked up a fine 120 Makro Planar there
for $400 two years ago.
Good luck with your decision,

Hi Jos,
400 € for a Macro 120 , a CF? Wow, what an opportunity. I got a 80 CFE
mint for less than 800 € once.
Yes prices really change a lot over here.As a buyer, I prefer Germany
because of the shipping facilities (i'm living in Luxembourg), they
don't have the Reserve system you have on ebay.com, and there a no
possiblities for luxembourgish people to do Paypal (really!)

nice greetings

No, Tom, the 120 Makro Planar was a pristine black C T* model in a bubble.
No complaints here about it being a "C". I have located a nice Hassy PME 45

That's a good price for a PME if it's in nice shape. They were
$500-600 four years ago when I got mine. I guess in a few more years
you'll get 'em for a hundred bucks.
